Most of the festivities and traditions in Avila were born with a religious character, even though other lively activities are often added, rooted within the city’s folklore and customs.

The following ones are some of them:

St. Segundo, city’s Patron Saint:May 2nd, St. Segundo day is celebrated, commemorating the transfer of the saint's remains to the Cathedral of Avila in 1594.

La ronda de las Leyendas” (The legend’s round): During the first weekend of June, the city becomes the suitable scenery for the representation of the Legends of Ávila, staged by a dramatic group

Medieval Celebrations:The first weekend of September, the city recovers its medieval image. Stalls, haimas, incense scents, rosemary, cheeses, jongleurs, knights... occupy downtown squares.

St. Teresa de Jesús festivities:October 15th, the city honors its most universal daughter with a celebration in its honor that begins with the an opening speech from the Town Hall balconies. A solemn mass in the cathedral is celebrated, that finishes with a procession through the main city streets. Giants, “cabezudos” (figures with large heads) and dragons, cross the streets according to the tradition.
