Where is Avila? The geographical location of Avila in Spain

Avila is located at 111km North West of Madrid the Capital of Spain.

Geographical Coordinates of Avila are: 40° 39′ 0″ N, 4° 41′ 0″ W

Ávila de los Caballeros, the real name of the city, is also the capital of the province of the same name, now part of the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain.
In Spain few cities, like Barcelona, or Madrid are at the same time a city name and a region or province name.

The city is 1117 meters (3665 feet) above sea level, the highest provincial capital in Spain. It is built on the flat summit of a rocky hill, which rises abruptly in the midst of a veritable wilderness: a brown, arid, treeless table-land, strewn with immense grey boulders, and shut in by lofty mountains.
This results in an extreme climate, with very hard and long winters, and short summers. (See weather in Avila).

By car: Take N-VI or A-6 tollway to Villacastin, then head south-west on the N-110. Alternatively, take M-505 / C-505 via El Escorial, branch off N-VI just before Las Rozas (see how to go from Madrid to Avila on google map)
